A(H1N1) scare reaches FCC
ROXAS CITY – The A(H1N1) scare has reached the Filamer Christian College (FCC) after about 20 of its students showed flu symptoms recently.
Dr. Expedito Señeres, president of FCC, however, was quick to clarify that the symptoms turned out to be that of influenza like illness (ILI) and not that of H1N1 flu as feared by many here.
Mr. Jurgen Gregorio, Coordinator of Mass Media and Publication of the FCC, told The News Today (TNT) that Señeres had issued memorandum to all teachers advising them to send their students to the clinic if they manifest flu-like symptoms.
He added that the FCC president also advised teachers to have their students exempted from classes when found with flu-like symptoms and said students should be allowed to have three days home confinement. It will then depend on the doctor whether or not to take a swab sample for H1N1 examination.
However, Gregorio said that the FCC opted not to suspend classes as no one has been confirmed to have A(H1N1) virus.
Last week, there were two additional victims of H1N1 flu virus in Capiz bringing the total of 5 confirmed cases of the said illness here.
The first victim was a female Overseas Female Worker (OFW) from Tapaz, Capiz who worked as Domestic Helper in Singapore.
However, Dr. Jarvish Punsalan, Provincial Health Officer, said that the said OFW already went back to work in Singapore.
Reportedly, her neighbor in Tapaz was also infected with H1N1 flu virus bringing two victims in Tapaz.
The second victim was 14 year old who is studying at Assumption School in Iloilo City where the said victim was believed to have been infected with A(H1N1) virus from her dormmate at the dormitory in Iloilo City who came from Hong Kong.
The latest two victims were also students coming from other places where they got infected with the said illness.
