According to LWUA Board Chairman Prospero Pichay, Jr. in a press report, the water projects in Region VI were among the 45 projects in the various areas in the country.
Pichay disclosed that said the construction of the water supply system projects costing some P239 million were completed in April this year.
He added that the initiative was part of the 220 water supply system development projects that their agency has targeted for completion this year, particularly in waterless municipalities.
Pichay stressed that LWUA has accelerated and expanded its water supply development program to support the fulfillment of one of President Arroyo's priority legacy programs, that aims to provide safe drinking water to every barangay by 2010.
This year, LWUA seeks to complete the water supply projects in 119 waterless communities and 101 non-operational water districts, he said.
He pointed out that the projects involved the development of additional surface or groundwater sources, construction of water impounding, pumping and storage facilities with provision for water treatment or disinfection as well as installation of transmission and distribution lines and metered household individual service connections and fire hydrants for fire-fighting and other emergencies.
Meanwhile, Metro Roxas Water District Commercial Division Manager Lilibeth Arluz disclosed that their water district in Roxas City alone has provided potable drinking water to thousands of Capiceños.
Arluz said that as of May this year, they have registered some 20,215 active water concessionaires in Roxas City, Panay, Ivisan, Panitan as well as in Sigma towns.
Other municipalities in Capiz, like Mambusao, Dumarao, Dumalag, Pontevedra, Pilar and President Roxas, have also their respective water districts that provide access to safe water to their populace.
Arluz also revealed that they are also on the process of conducting a feasibility plan to extend their water services to the towns of Dao and Cuartero. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
