Bing has three birthday wishes for Bacolod City
BACOLOD CITY -- Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced last Friday his "three major birthday wishes" for Bacolod City for the remaining months of his public service as political season is drawing near.
Leonardia mentioned that when he celebrated his birthday three years ago, his wishes were for the construction of New Government Center and the new slaughterhouse and this dreamed was realized.
Last Friday Leonardia said that part of his wishes this year is the establishment and completion of the sanitary landfill.
"Last night I was watching TV and no less than US President Barrack Obama was talking about climate change and even leaders from most powerful countries realized how significant is preserving our environment," Leonardia said.
He quoted Obama in saying that most problems we have in the environment is man-made. Leonardia emphasized that establishing a sanitary landfill is just like contributing in our own small way to the global concern on climate change.
"I hope that the committee on environment headed by City Councilor Greg Gasataya is working very hard on this and we believe that we are in the right direction," Leonardia said.
He challenged his detractors to cooperate on this project because this is not "Bacolod politics" and this is all about caring and protecting our environment.
Leonardia also mentioned his other birthday wish for Bacolod which he would like to realize this year. He is very optimistic that his administration will provide new relocattion site for informal settlers. "As of now, around 1,500 houses in the city of Bacolod face ejectment cases," Leonardia lamented. He said that the only way to solve this problem is to get another relocation site.
Leonardia also wished that the economic recovery in the city will continue to accelerate despite the global recession in some other countries. "I say this with some hope, inspiration and encouragement because I gathered with some big malls in the city, and I was happy when they told me that their sales this year rose by 15 percent compared to last year and definitely this is a good indicator for the local economy," Leonardia added.
Leonardia celebrated his birthday last Friday with Buboy Fernandez, who was sent by world boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, along with Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Golez, Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco and other local officials from different cities and municipalities.
