Transport strike paralyzes Capiz
ROXAS CITY – Thousands of commuters coming in and out of this city became stranded yesterday after transport organizations joined the nationwide strike.
Robert Carangdang, spokesman of the transport groups, claimed that the strike successfully paralyzed transportation in Roxas City and the province of Capiz.
He said that only passenger jeepneys in Ivisan did not participate in the said transport strike since they still have unresolved problems concerning whether or not the public utility vehicles in the second district could use the Balijuagan-Ivisan road as an alternative.
Carangdang apologized to the commuters for the inconvenience brought by the said transport strike. He said it was staged staged it to protest the unabated increases in the price of oil, and Department of Transportation and Communication’s (DOTC) Order Nos. 38 and 39 that impose stiffer fines and penalties to erring drivers and operators.
Jessie Gomez, Ph.D, of the Department of Education Culture (DepEd) announced the suspension of classes in all public schools from elementary to college yesterday. Gomez, however, said the schools are required to hold make-up classes on Saturday.
