Philippine Biochem Corp. to rise in Murcia
BACOLOD CITY -- Murcia Mayor Esteban Coscolluela confirmed that the Lucio Tan group is preparing to build the Philippine Biochem Corp. next to its Tanduay plant in Murcia.
The multi-million project is scheduled to start early next year.
Coscolluela also clarified that Asian Alcohol Corp. (AAC), which is owned by Tan, in Pulupandan is not moving to Murcia because this is an entirely different company.
Because of conflicts between the local government unit and complaints of pollution from the residents, AAC shutdown few months ago.
The Lucio Tan group is now conducting a water vulnerability test for the proposed project.
This time they are waiting for the firm’s technical presentation.
“If we are convinced that its presence is environmentally manageable we will allow it,” he said, adding that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will also have the last say on the matter.
If this project will push through, Coscolluela said, it can help a lot for his people in terms of employment and taxes.
