RIAS-6 chief sacked over 'donation box' issue
For asking donations from police personnel having transactions in his office, the chief of the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) of Police Regional Office 6 has been relieved from his post.
A source from PRO-6 said that RIAS regional director Supt. Emmanuel Ughoc was transferred to Region VII as deputy chief effective yesterday.
Ughoc confirmed his transfer in an interview made by Aksyon Radyo's Johnny Diaz yesterday.
The beleaguered RIAS chief said he received a text message from their head in Camp Crame ordering him to leave RIAS-6 then transfer to Region VII.
It was not yet clear who will replace Ughoc as chief of RIAS-6.
Earlier, Ughoc became controversial after several police officers complained that he has been asking donations from them when they transact business at RIAS-6. The anonymous complainants also claimed that Ughoc asked for dried fish from policemen coming from northern Iloilo.
Ughoc, in the radio interview, admitted that there is a donation box in his office but he said such practice existed even before he assumed as chief of RIAS-6 in January this year.
Ughoc clarified that the donation is only voluntary, it is not imposed on the police officers transacting business in his office.
Ughoc said they use the money from the donation box to buy office supplies since their budget is not enough. He said their monthly budget for office supplies is only P6,000.
The said official, on the other hand, strongly denied asking dried fish or other goods from some police officers.
Ughoc said he does not understand the motive behind the spreading of said lies against him.
He challenged those behind the allegations to show evidence to prove their claim.
RIAS is an independent body that investigates complaints filed against policemen and makes recommendations.
