Distribution of relief goods to highlight Panitan fiesta
PANITAN, Capiz – This town’s fiesta celebration slated on August 8-10 will focus on the distribution of relief goods among indigents instead of an extravagant and big affair, Mayor Katherine Dequiña Belo told The News Today (TNT).
“We have shortened our activities from one week into three days during the fiesta,” Belo said adding that Local Government Units (LGU) celebrated previously will be merged with visitors’ night.
According to her, some 1,000 indigents of the municipality will be given aids as the lean months take off especially in the month of August.
The municipal and religious fiesta in honor St. Lawrence Deacon, the town’s patron saint, is celebrated every August 9-10.
Last year, Belo said the municipality purchased prime commodities and sold to underprivileged constituents at subsidized prices instead of celebrating the fiesta which was canceled by the municipal officials due to the typhoon Frank devastation.
Panitan, an agricultural community, is basically dependent on agriculture as its main source of livelihood.
Meanwhile, Belo said that there will be no dignitaries nor any visitors from Manila who will grace this year's fiesta celebration.
