Flash flood hits Brgy. Bata
BACOLOD CITY -- Mayor Evelio Leonardia alerted last Sunday evening the City Engineers Office and the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) after confirming reports that around 34 families from Purok Masinadyahon, Brgy. Bata were affected by floods.
The mayor also immediately called the attention of the Bacolod Rescue and Emergency Response Team led by his Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas.
The flood caused by continuous heavy rains lasted until around 1 a.m. of the following day, Monday.
The affected residents were evacuated at the Our Lady of Parish Church in Brgy. Bata where they were given foods by the DSSD.
Leonardia met yesterday with the evacuees and he was told that the flood could be attributed to the construction of the fence by the Villa Valderamma Subdivision.
Leonardia contacted Sangguniang Panglungsod Member Roberto Rojas, chair of the Flood Control Task Force, and he promised to meet with the subdivision owners to discuss possible solution to the problem.
Earlier, Villa Valderamma Subdivision owners complained that the residents keep dumping their waste inside the subdivision prompting them to close their property.
"I hope that the barangay officials can help prevent or at least minimize the dumping of waste at the creek which also causes flood in the area," Leonardia said.
Leonardia hopes that with the intercession of Rojas a win-win solution could be reached.
