Young Voices of Negros wins 16 golds, 8 silvers in WCOPA
The Young Voices of Negros Philippines bagged a total of 16 gold medals and eight silver medals during the recently concluded World Championships of Performing Arts held in Los Angeles, California.
The group also bagged the star trophy for being the 2009 Junior Grand Champion of World Vocal Group.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia was extremely elated with the group’s overwhelming success saying that the group has made every Bacoleño, and even Negrosanon, very proud.
The group, together with their mentor Art Madrigal, talked with the mayor prior to their departure to the United States through a meeting arranged by Councilor Homer Bais.
Madrigal, the group’s mentor and music master, expressed his gratitude to Leonardia and the City Government and all others who expressed their support to the group.
Leonardia said that the group’s success is an indication of how talented Bacoleños are.
The Young Voices of Negros is composed of the Madrigal siblings Ma. Ana Katrina, Ma. Ana Kristina and Kristopherson together with Aissa Mae Mateos.
The talented children won four golds in each of the following events for the junior vocal group category: R&B (“I Will Survive), Pop (“Listen”), Original (“So This Is America”), and as grand finalist.
They won four silvers for each of the following: Open (“And I am Telling You”), and Gospel (“How Great Thou Art”).
The group will be visiting the Disneyland before heading back to Bacolod
