Talisay dads oppose establishment of Northbound Terminal
BACOLOD CITY — The Sangguniang Panglungsod of Talisay City recently wrote a letter addressed to Bacolod City Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson relative to the proposal of setting up a new Northbound Terminal in the area before the Banago Road junction to decongest the traffic along Lacson St. especially from Lopue’s Mandalagan to Robinson’s Place-Bacolod.
Talisay City SP Member Jose Maria Astorga Sr. along with SP Member Charles Benedict Lacson objected the inclusion of the Talisay-Bacolod route for practical reasons.
Both Astorga and Lacson said that imposing a general prohibition on the entry of PUVs and PUJs may not be fair to the neighboring cities of Bacolod, specifically Talisay City. Astorga said that it is barely seven kilometers from the center of Bacolod City, and is less than five kilometers going to the proposed North Terminal.
“It will kill our transport industry. There are around 500 units plying the route and more than 500 families depend their livelihood on it,” Astorga said.
They believed that it will be more expensive to the students, employees and businessmen who take the route going to the shopping center. The students studying in West Negros University, University of St. La Salle, Riverside College and Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod will not be spending double and it will give additional burden to their parents.
“Our city is host to the many families who are spill-over from the crowding residential areas in Bacolod. Many are working in Bacolod and have children studying there. Some are even registered voters of Bacolod. Talisay City is just their physical home but they belong to Bacolod by practices,” Astorga added.
They appealed to the Sangguniang Panglungsod to allow PUJs from Talisay to be allowed their status quo route. Astorga said that by allowing them, it will mean livelihood to about 500 families and no additional expense on fare to the thousand of students, employees and businessmen from Talisay.
Lacson said that by having a status quo in Talisay-Bacolod route, this will help cope the present economic crisis. Earlier, Astorga and Lacson said that the proposal of setting up a new Northbound Terminal in the area will decongest traffic along Lacson St. especially from Lopue’s Mandalagan to Robinson’s Place-Bacolod. Likewise it will provide convenience to Northbound Terminal passengers who travel from as far as Dumaguete and San Carlos cities.
