NOPPO to tap force multipliers in anti-crime drive
BACOLOD CITY — With the police-to-population ratio not as ideal as it looks, the Philippine National Police in Negros Occidental is once again tapping the services of force multipliers in the province in the campaign against lawlessness.
Over the weekend, the 613th Provincial Mobile Group based in Hinigaran and under the leadership of Police Superintendent Edgardo Ordaniel initiated a Barangay Tanod Enhancement seminar held at the covered court of Barangay Payao in Binalbagan.
Around 60 barangay watchmen underwent lectures and demonstrations on self defense like karatedo, arnis and “dulo-dulo”, intelligence networking, report writing, medical rescue on emergencies, rules on criminal procedures, arrest techniques and seizure operations.
Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, NOPPO public information officer, said that the participants were also given flyers, leaflets and copies of the Miranda Doctrine for their reference while at the same time, got the opportunity to view a film entitled “Huwad Na Pangarap”, a movie clip about the frustrations of a former NPA member he experienced while still with the rebel movement.
In Murcia town, the local police headed by Police Chief Inspector Simeon Gane conducted a seminar for barangay tanods in Barangay Blumentritt last Saturday in order to update them with the current trends in law enforcement and other important topics.
In fact, the Barangay Blumentritt Tanod Association was also evaluated last Monday by representatives from the DILG led by Ma Lina Madayag, provincial DILG officer, for the Search for Barangay Tanod Group 2009 contest that will represent the province in the regional level.
Santotome, who evaluated the participants as to their readiness in first aid, emergency response, arrest techniques and self defense, reminded the force multipliers to set the example in their barangay so that their constituents will respect and follow them.
