July 6, 2009 marked the date when Negros Island with the big help of the Philippine Department of Tourism in Tokyo participated in the Celebration of the 150th Year Anniversary (Y-150) of the opening of the Yokohama Port in Aka Renga known to be as the Red Brick Warehouse in Yokohama City, Japan.
Negros Island in my Heart Inc. was represented by its Japan counterpart Fukuda Interlink Co. Ltd. From July 6-12, 2009 various meetings and connections paved the way for Negros with its entrance to the International arena with its main thrust of the campaign on the “Sustainable Rural Development through Agri-tourism.”
Several meetings transpired regarding the supply of Organic products such as Coffee and Rice and the bringing of Educational groups and Tourists to Negros Island as a whole.
The crowd gathers around Aka Renga
Soko in Yokohama City where the
Promotional Campaign of Negros
Island took place.
Amongst the 7, 107 Islands of the Philippines , Negros Is. was given the chance to promote the Province to the Japanese people focusing on Educational tours of students for Eco-Tourism and agricultural development awareness, the Business groups for the Organic Products and Rural Developments, the Sports group like the Golfers, Tourists and Backpackers for all of them to see the untapped Natural Resources like the Marine Reserves of Negros, the nearly extinct Bleeding Heart Pigeon of Negros Island, the Beautiful Mountains of Mount Silay where Patag is and Mount Kanlaon and the Pristine Seas which the Japanese people are very interested in.
The Negros Booth showcased products like the much in demand woven bags of Calatrava, the accessories of San Carlos City and Toboso, the Tumandok of Bago City and Products from Sagay City and the Hablons to name a few. A bilingual Pamphlet for Negros Island in my Heart was distributed during the whole duration of the Promotional Campaign.

The office of the Philippine Department of Tourism in Tokyo headed by Tourism Attache Mr. Valentino Lacson Cabansag and the untiring and unconditional assistance of Grace Alonsagay Horii a Negrosanon, made the Promotion very successful . DOT included the Negros Pamphlets in their kits and was distributed to all the visitors that visited the Philippine Booth.
This alone proved that the Campaign served its purpose and this coming August 3-30, 2009 at Aka Renga , again another Campaign will be participated by Negros Island in my Heart to promote Negros as one of the destination in the Visayan Region .
In another development, NHK TV JAPAN represented by Mr. Ken Yoshii contacted the Negros group for its Documentary of Negros Island. Photos were already sent and communications are in process. NHK TV known in Japan as Nippon Television is owned by the government and is one of the Prime Television companies that produce Documentaries with a very wide viewership in Japan. Crossing our fingers, Negros Island will be one of the Destinations not to miss from the last quarter of this year onwards. (egonzaga)
