RDC-6 to focus on classrooms, school buildings backlog
The Regional Development Council (RDC) in Western Visayas chaired by Antique Governor Salvacion Perez will be looking at backlogs in classrooms and school buildings as part of its priorities between now and next year.
RDC vice-chairperson at the same time National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) director Ro-Ann Bacal said their thrust coincided with the pronouncement of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) on Monday of the government’s big investments on education.
“Right now, the Department of Education (DepEd) is firming up the list of backlogs by province,” she announced. “This will be our main reference in determining how much more resources we need to put on the ground in order for us to reduce the backlogs.”
A report from the DepEd here showed that as of May 30, the Department of Education has rehabilitated and constructed 187 school buildings that were damaged by typhoon ‘Frank.’
Also, 14 buildings were built and 15 were repaired under the Support to Philippine Education Reform (SPHERE) Project while the Red and Black Schools project also constructed 35 new classrooms in 23 schools in Western Visayas.
The Toilet, Classroom and Repair of Gabaldon Building (TCRG) project implemented by the DepEd central office has installed 341 toilets, repaired 146 classrooms and constructed 38 new classrooms.(PNA
