Capiz joins national mourning on Cory’s death
ROXAS CITY – The Province of Capiz under the stewardship of Governor Victor Tanco, Sr. is joining the nationwide mourning on the death of Former President Cory Aquino by ordering public and private buildings to hoist their Philippines Flag at half mast in honor and respect to the former president who will be buried today at the Manila Memorial Park.
In his Executive Order No. 026, series of 2009, Tanco ordered the strict compliance and implementation of Section 23 of Republic Act No. 8491, specifically the hoisting of the Philippine Flag at half-mast on all buildings and places where it is displayed for a period of ten days from August 1 – 11, as a sign of mourning for the death of Aquino.
According to the EO, last Saturday, August 1, 2009, the nation was saddened by the news of the death of Former President Corazon Cojuanco Aquino.
It also said that it could not be denied that Aquino has been a good leader to this nation, an icon of democracy who freed the Philippine nation from the repressive 20-year regime of tyranny and dictatorship hence, her death is a great loss to the country.
“The provincial government joins the nation in saluting the Former President Corazon C. Aquino for her crusade for freedom, democracy and justice and a sign of respect and mourning, the Philippine Flag in all buildings and offices where it is displayed are ordered to be flown half-mast,” the EO stated.
The said EO took effect last Monday immediately after signed by Gov. Tanco, Sr and shall remain valid and effective until August 11.
