Warring city officials united for Cory’s mass
ROXAS CITY – City officials coming from opposing sides showed up together in yesterday’s mass offered for the late Pres. Corazon Aquino. City officials like City Mayor Vicente Bermejo, Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas and all city councilors seems to be united yesterday at the mass sponsored by city government.
Said city officials shook hands with each other and showed signs of peace during the portion of the mass where the priest calls for the giving of peace.
The mass was offered in honor and respect to President Aquino, an icon of democracy who was buried at the Manila Memorial Park yesterday.
It was learned that Vice Mayor Dadivas had been at odds with the city councilors and Mayor Bermejo for several instances.
Dadivas, who is a staunch critic of Bermejo, accused the latter of realigning the calamity fund into other projects. The vice mayor was also not in good terms with city councilors after he barred by the latter from delivering his privilege speech recently.
Dadivas, who is a lone opposition at the city council, is identified with 1st District Cong. Antonio del Rosario, a political enemy of Bermejo.
Meanwhile, the provincial government under the stewardship of Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr offered flowers and candles at the entrance of provincial capitol yesterday in respect and honor to President Cory Aquino’s burial.
Last Monday, Tanco had issued an executive order to all private and public sectors to have their Philippine Flags displayed at half-mast.
Employees of the provincial capitol conducted an operation to put yellow ribbons on vehicles, both private and public, to give sympathy and honor to the death of the former president.
