Garin leads SP plea for guv’s add’l police funding
Never too early for Christmas. As such, never too early to work on granting a wishlist.
This, the Capitol’s Committee on Public Order and Security now officially decided after coming up with a Resolution addressed to Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas Sr.
Contained in Committee Report No. 07-09, First District Board Member Richard Garin led the call following the request of Iloilo’s top cop, Police Senior Superintendent Ricardo dela Paz.
The committee’s response came after Dela Paz was invited by the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) to give an update on peace and order situation of the province.
Senior Superintendent Dela Paz is Provincial Director of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO). In his report, he laid down IPPO efforts in curbing criminality throughout Iloilo’s 42 towns and one component city. Alongside such were advocacies aimed at maintaining a stable peace and order situation here.
With the report came a “wishlist” for SP’s consideration.
“During the committee hearing, it was discussed that there is a need to support the PNP SWAT/EOD and acquisition of these equipment are necessary to their operations such as SWAT van, bomb protective suits, gears and other accessories and firearms,” excerpts of the committee report as obtained by The News Today (TNT) went. “At present, there are two SWAT teams in the IPPO. They were properly trained but they do not have the necessary equipment to be used in responding to different crisis situation like bomb threat, bomb explosion and possible plane hijacking.”
The committee in passing the Resolution urged Governor Tupas to appropriate funds needed so the IPPO “wishlist” will be implemented.
