Training for city’s 94 police auxiliaries to start
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the 94 police auxiliaries who passed the written examination and interview will undergo training this month after the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has conducted background check.
Treñas said the police auxiliaries will undergo one month training to equip them with basic police skills prior to their deployment in the different parts of the city. “Most of them are criminology graduates and we will select the best applicants to be employed as soon as possible.”
The city government appropriated P5 million for the hiring of police auxiliaries as multiplier force to the city police. The hiring of police auxiliary is patterned from Manila. It was conceptualized by ICPO director Senior Supt. Melvin Mongcal.
The successful applicants shall undergo training and enhancing of physical skills to include basic body conditioning exercises as well as first Aid/CPR. They will also undertake seminar/workshops on fundamentals of law enforcement such as law offenses and procedures, patrol operations and other related matters that will enhance their knowledge about their jobs.
Once hired, the police auxiliary will be armed with nightsticks, flashlights and tear gas. They will have their own set of uniforms to distinguish them from the members of the national police and traffic aides.
Police auxiliaries will receive honoraria, health and insurance benefits from the city government. They will be rehired depending on their performances during their street duty.
The review and final approval of the applicants have been undertaken by the Approval Committee composed of duly authorized representatives from the City Mayor’s Office, ICPO, City Legal Office, and Chairman on Police Matters of Sangguniang Panlungsod.
