Road destroyers
Many are complaining about the deplorable condition of the road in Brgy. Tacas, Jaro going to Pavia, Iloilo. The road was actually destroyed by the heavy equipment and huge trucks working on the Iloilo Flood Control Project. The contractors of the flood control project should be required to fix all the roads they destroyed. Indi na nila dapat pag-isalig sa gobyerno ang pagkaayo sang mga dalan nga ila ginguba nga nagatuga perwisyo sa mga pumuluyo.
Iloilo City political tidbits
Wild talks reverberating in coffee shops nowadays is the possibility of a Treñas-Mabilog-Tupas (Congressman-Mayor-Vice Mayor) triumvirate that will fight against the Gonzalez Jr.-Gonzalez Sr.- ? force. The position for vice mayor in the Gonzalez camp is still uncertain although Konsehal Tony Pesina is pushing his way to be the chosen one. Just the other day, Konsehal Lex already declared that he is open to run for a higher position in the next election. Although, nothing is heard yet from Mayor JPT political observers believe that he will slug it out with the Gonzalezes to prove that he can stand on his own (that is, even without Raul Sr.). On the other hand, Larry J has been busy doing the rounds in various barangays of the city as he declared that he is ready to fight it out with Raul Sr. in the mayoralty post. Mayor Mansing Malabor, who has served as mayor of Iloilo City for three terms, will reportedly run again for congressman. While, former Vice Mayor Vic Facultad has already decided to throw his hat in the vice-mayoralty post. Other possible contenders in the congressional post are former City Councilor Benjie Gengos and Atty. Dan Cartagena of the Nationalist People’s Coalition. Atty. Cartagena, on his part, believes that winning the election is not only based on how deep are the pockets of the candidates but also in their sincerity and ability to serve.
Extravagant dinner
No amount of explaining can justify the extravagant dinner of Pres. Arroyo and her delegation at a famed restaurant in New York after their audience with US President Barack Obama last week. Even if the money used to pay for the P1 million dinner did not come from the government coffers it was still inappropriate for Mrs. Arroyo and company to partake of said extravagance when back home thousands could not even complete three square meals a day. The other day Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism also reported that PGMA’s assets doubled since the time she assumed as President in 2001 – from P66 million to P144 million. PGMA, on the other hand, defended that her wealth was not acquired through corruption. Well, what do we expect?
