Why blame Gloria?
Former Pres. Cory Aquino was finally laid to rest, August 5, 2009 at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque amid thousands of “yellow” supporters who braved the rains for the almost eight hours funeral journey.
Her death wish was granted, to get buried beside her beloved husband, Sen. Ninoy Aquino, already a national hero who sacrificed his life for the Filipino people whom he believes is truly worth dying for.
The couple deserves the highest adulation if only because their unselfish love for their country and fellowmen knows no boundary.
Their names will go down and will forever be engraved in history.
On the other hand, Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo made a wise decision in attending the wake of Cory despite the cold treatment given to her by the Aquino siblings. She was despised and ridiculed by some opposition leaders prior to her arrival but this did not stop her in performing her obligation to pay her last respects to a former president. Her political differences with Cory, was not a hindrance to her duty as the head of state.
Though Sen. Noynoy Aquino failed to hide his discontentment with Gloria, the former acted in a civil manner, prompting Malacañang to extend their appreciation to the Aquino family with his statesmanship.
Of all the siblings, youngest daughter Kris Aquino was the most vocal to articulate her anger against the president.
I sympathized with Kris from the bottom of my heart – honest. And I guess the world felt the same for sure. I cried with her several times knowing fully well the pain of losing a mother, and a father for that matter.
The immediate withdrawal of the two security personnel officially assigned to their dying mother as ordered by the police hierarchy for accounting purposes was well explained. Kris made a howl out of the withdrawal as if somebody crucified her upside down.
There was an official letter of apology from Malacañang appropriately disseminated for public consumption more particularly addressed to the Aquino family. What more does she want? I just hope she does not expect the President of the Philippines to approach her on bended knees?
But Kris is unstoppable; worst she created a “mountain out of a molehill.” She took advantage of the situation by bringing her “cause” to the media knowing fully well that the Fourth Estate is picking up every bit of pieces closely related to the recent death of her mom.
If she is doing this for political reason, then every drop of tears I shed for her mom would mean nothing.
Kris cried a river good enough to flood the whole nation. People cried with her too of course, for a good reason.
But blaming Gloria of her present predicament is too much.
Cory Aquino had her death wish granted. She was buried side by side with her husband Sen. Ninoy Aquino already a hero before her. Both joined their Creator peacefully.
Cory will soon be beatified into a saint. She died ultimately a fulfilled woman and a mother to her brood. She left a lasting legacy for all of us to cherish, to enjoy; save it for the future generations. Isn’t this enough blessing for the Aquinos? What else can they ask for?
Gloria on several occasions publicly announced she is stepping down from presidency in 2010, yet the opposition won’t take her words seriously. They would even capitalize the death of Cory to trigger an imaginary revolution. Can you believe that?
This is where Kris excels prominently – hypnotism through mass media influence. She did it at the right time, at the right place, but for the wrong reason. Geee!!! Your motive smells rot.
When Kris made an announcement that only she and brother Noynoy are in the position to continue their parents’ struggle and if she is really sincere on this, then by all means go ahead.
I also want to see Kris someday in the pedestal of power but already in a different dimension as far as political maturity is concerned.
Who knows? She could be Ninoy and Cory rolled into one. She could be witty and saintly at the same time.
The curtain is about to close for Gloria leaving a mountainous unfulfilled business to bequeath with. It is a political cycle every incoming president has to conform with.
At this point in time putting the blame on Gloria could be counter-productive. Gloria with all her imperfection isn’t that bad at all.
She did her best for her country and for her people. History will also judge her justly.
