Owners of colorum trikes seek government consideration
ROXAS CITY — Some 300 colorum tricycle owners have asked the city government through the City Council during last Tuesday’s regular session that they be allowed to ply their routes.
A petition signed by Carlito Cosipe, representative of colorum tricycles, asked the city government to reconsider its anti-colorum ordinance.
The group said their families depend mainly on the income that they earn in plying their routes.
They also asked City Mayor Vicente Bermejo not to disregard their needs and be allowed to ply their routes even from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. only.
The petition was read by City Councilor Jose Agdalipe, chair of committee on transportation, communication and public utilities.
The city council have a common stand not to allow the colorum tricycles to ply their routes to protect the interest of 3,500 franchise holders who are paying licenses and permits in the city government.
Earlier, Bermejo said that the task force on anti-colorum tricycles which is composed of several representatives from various organizations will be deputized by the city government to apprehend colorum tricycles.
Penalties provided in the said ordinance are the following: 1st offense, P1,500; 2nd offense, P3,000; and 3rd offense, P5,000 and the colorum tricycle will be impounded.
