Mondejar wants Capitol regulation on ‘shoulder’ of prov’l roads
Mondejar
A little too close. A little too much. On provincial “road shoulders” that is, reason why Second District Board Member June Mondejar wants Capitol to come in.
As such, a proposal was made yesterday by Mondejar for an Ordinance that would regulate “unregulated shoulders” of provincial roads here.
In a privilege speech, Mondejar brought to light his personal observations on various road obstructions as basis of his proposal.
“Provincial roads like other thoroughfares should be clear or free from obstruction of whatsoever nature or kind, so that its carriageway will be safe for passing vehicles and its shoulders will be safe for walking pedestrians,” he began. “Unfortunately, some of the people planted trees or ornamental plants and provided or installed some things on the shoulders that cause obstruction not only on the shoulders but indirectly on the carriageway.”
From said ornamental plants, to vegetable gardens and fences, Board Member Mondejar wants a stop to the practice.
“It’s nice to see growing trees on equal spacing in a single line along the shoulders of the road. These trees beautify the shoulders of the road and provide shade to the walking as well as waiting folks. However, there are trees which were planted and are grown along the shoulder of the road near the edge of the pavement… I personally appreciate the noble purpose of the earlier mentioned activities or undertakings on the shoulders of the roads. However for being unregulated, some have become obstructions. And if these would end up to the vehicular accidents, I don’t think the end could justify the means… And the more obstructions we see in the future, the more vehicular accidents we expect to happen. Again prevention is better than cure,” Mondejar ended.
