DTI gears up for regional OTOP congress
Preparations are now underway for the first ever Regional One Town, One Product (OTOP) Congress here next month, spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The congress will be highlighted by the awarding of “Best OTOP” in three categories - for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), for supportive local government unit and for partner organization or agency.
DTI Iloilo Provincial Director Wilhelm Malones said the regional committee is waiting for the supporting documents from nominees to the search.
“It will be a great encouragement for our OTOP supporters and inspire them to do better in the program,” Malones said.
The Regional OTOP Congress is slated September 25 this year.
Winners in the region will compete for the national search in November.
OTOP is one of President Gloria Macagapal-Arroyo’s banner programs to push local products and SMEs in the countryside.
It assists micro, small, and medium enterprises in the manufacture, offer, and market of distinctive products or services through the use of indigenous raw materials and local skills and talents.
Likewise, it offers a comprehensive assistance package through a convergence of services from local government units, national government agencies, and the private sector. (PNA)
