Dalayunan launches literacy program for boys
The Iloilo Juvenile Welfare Foundation (IJWF), Inc. through its flagship project Dalayunan, a home for boys, launched its literacy program called “Edukasyon sa Barangay” at Brgy. Baldoza, La Paz last July 17.
The initiative is in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) through its Alternative Learning System (ALS) program.
The literacy program aims to provide educational intervention to 40 beneficiaries who are IJWF reintegrated clients and the out-of-school-youth at the community level.
IJWF chair First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas inspired the youth and parents to support the learning project during the launching program.
Dr. Erlinda Gencaya, City Schools Division Superintendent challenged the youth and their parents to do their share in promotion of learning to achieve successful results.
The Edukasyon sa Barangay at Baldoza is the third of IJWF-initiated literacy program handled by DepEd ALS mobile teacher Abert Demerin in conducting daily classes for 10 months.
Another project was implemented in Brgy. Boulevard, Molo last January 30, 2009.
The program was initially piloted in Brgy. San Juan, Molo last December 2, 2008 which produced 37 ALS completers under the supervision of DepEd ALS mobile teacher Ena Boteros.
The completers have been referred to ALS coordinator for them to undergo formal ALS review in preparation for the acceleration and equivalency test to be conducted by DepEd in later part of this year. (PIO)
