Farmers asked to sell palay to NFA
Department of Agriculture (DA) 6 Regional Director Larry Nacionales encouraged the farmers in the province of Capiz to form into a group to sell their palay to the National Food Authority (NFA) for a better price.
Nacionales said he requested the municipal agriculture officer (MAO) of each town to coordinate with the NFA. They can sell their palay for a much better price when compared to those in the palay buying station this harvest season.
He said it would be easier for the NFA to go to the place once the farmers are already organized. The procurement method is undemanding compared when the NFA deals individually to the farmers.
The recommendation came amid reports on the very low price offered by private buyers to the farmers this harvest season. Palay with 14 percent moisture content sells as P17 per kilo while palay with 18 percent moisture content sells between P14 to P15 per kilo, said Nacionales.
It is advantageous for the farmers to sell their palay to the NFA as get additional P1 for every kilo sold. NFA has enough funds for its palay procurement, he said.
The only problem that the NFA is facing is the lack of bodega to store the palay, Nacionales said.
