Kabankalan City PNP Intel Officer stabbed dead by carnap suspect
A police officer assigned as intelligence officer of Kabankalan City Police Station died after he was stabbed by an unidentified assailant or assailants yesterday morning in Crossing Hilamunan in the city.
Kabankalan City PNP chief Police Superintendent Calixto Mabugat said that Senior Police Officer 1 Hernani Diwatin, intelligence PNCO of the local PNP, was dead-on-arrival at the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital due to multiple stab wounds on the different parts of his body inflicted by the suspect.
A patrol team led by Senior Police Officer 1 Joel Bugalon which responded to the stabbing incident said that the police recovered one unit Honda XRM motorcycle owned by the fleeing suspect and one backpack.
Investigation revealed that Diwatin’s failure to notice that the suspect was carrying a bladed weapon which the latter used in stabbing the said police officer during the confrontation resulted in his untimely death.
Witnesses claimed that the police officer proceeded to the said place to verify reports of an alleged carnapping activity at past 2:00 in the morning of Sunday prior to the fatal incident.
Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix, provincial director of the Negros Occidental PNP directed Mabugat to resolve the incident as soon a s possible to give justice to the slain police officer.
Felix also expressed his sympathy to the bereaved family of Diwatin as well as to the members of Kabankalan City PNP for the demise of the lawman while performing to a call of duty.
