P720M Biomass power plant project up in Sibalom
SAN JOSE, Antique- The ASEA One Power Corporation would put up a P720 million Biomass Power Plant in Barangay Odiong, Sibalom this province.
Jedi Jim U. Carcallas, the firms Development Communications Officer during the Stakeholders Consultative Meeting on Wednesday said that the power firm would generate six megawatts (mw) which would augment supply of Antique Electric Cooperative (ANTECO), ILECO-I and other transmission/distribution facilities in nearby provinces.
The proposed project would mean stable power supply, lower electricity rate, more jobs, additional income for rice and coconut farmers, attract more investors and generate more revenues for the local government units, the source said.
Though the firm’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) includes among others the promotion of computer literacy, enhancement of social services like the lying-in clinics, street lightings and road improvement in power plant site, Carcallas explained.
The power plant would use Steam Turbine Generator to convert animal and farm waste to electricity along with the installation /strict implementation of safety measures and compliance with related laws in order to safeguard the people’s health and well being, the source emphasized.
Moreover, open-field burning of rice straws/rice hull would be a thing of the past, thus leading to the realization of the Clean Air Act.
Mitigating measures on environmental and social concerns would be addressed. Aside from the opinion of experts, the corporation has sought the views of the local residents and the leaders in order to achieve synergetic effect in the completion and operation of the project.
The construction phase would be for October 2009 to October 2010 and operation would start on January 1, 2011 Carcallas concluded. (MLG/PIA)
