WV bags outstanding MSME’s Awards
Western Visayas topped all three categories of the first-ever Presidential Awards for the Outstanding Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for Visayas held this year.
This was disclosed by Department of Trade and Industry 6 Information Officer Ruby Melliza to the Philippine Information Agency recently.
Named as outstanding enterprise for micro category was Doods Enterprise owned by Rosemarie Madejanon of Negros Occidental.
On the other hand, chosen as outstanding enterprises in the small and medium categories are Filbake Food Corporation and Vicmik Enterprises, respectively. Vicmik Enterprise also won the GLOBE Masigasig Award.
Filbake Food Corporation is owned by Guidon de la Cruz of the province of Aklan and Vicmik Enterprises is owned by Esabel Lovina of Negros Occidental.
No less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo conferred the awards to the winners in an awarding ceremony held at the Megatrade Hall 3 of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City to promote the importance of small businesses in nation-building through people empowerment and jobs generation.
The awarding was part of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Week celebrated last July 6 to 12, this year in pursuance of Republic Act No. 9501, the Magna Carta for MSMEs, which the President signed in May last year.
Melliza believes that the award will continue to inspire MSMEs as their successes are vital to propel the country forward.
President Arroyo said in a Malacanang report that focusing on the development of MSMEs is a major part of her overall national development plan as MSMEs comprise 99.6 percent of all registered firms in the country. (PIA)
