NMIS lauds Bacolod slaughterhouse
National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) conducted inspection at the New Bacolod Slaughterhouse in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City recently.
Among those who conducted the inspection were Mr. George Garcia from the NMIS Central Office, Manila; Mr. Rodolfo Orbita and Mr. Erwin Jucal from the NMIS Regional Office; and Dr. Agueda Trinidad F. De la Torre, Sr. Meat Control Officer, Plant Operation Inspection Division.
This inspection is for the evaluation and accreditation of the New Bacolod Slaughterhouse for double A (AA) Category. AA Category states that the slaughterhouse can cater for national consumption.
Mr. Garcia said, the findings will be released next week. However, he said the slaughterhouse is the biggest and the most modern in Western Visayas.
This is in compliance to City Ordinance no. 459 – an ordinance establishing guidelines and policies in the apprehension of illegally slaughtered animals in the city of Bacolod, creating a task force for its implementation and providing penalties thereof; states that meat inspection is one of the basic services which shall be undertaken by the Local Government Unit to see to it that meat offered for sale to the public is healthy, wholesome and fit for human consumption.
Present during the inspection were Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Executive Assistant to the Mayor Mr. Ernesto Pineda, City Veterinarian Dr. Adelo Daroy and AVM Bernardo Operations Manager Jerald Michael De Mesa.
