2009 IP festival goes online
ROXAS CITY – A website for this year’s Indigenous Peoples (IP) festival from October 2 to 6 at the Villareal Stadium here has been developed by the Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) with the aim to give the widest dissemination and promotion to the forthcoming celebration.
The online portal called “Dungog” which can be accessed through http://dungog.ning.com features festival activities, IP profiles, news updates, multi-media display, and Capiz profile and tourism potentials, among others.
The 5-day festival will be hosted by the Capiz provincial government in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
It will gather 110 ethno-linguistic groups nationwide and aims to deepen awareness, understanding and appreciation of the diversity of Filipino culture and other communities, recognize the expertise and works of cultural community masters, and provide a venue for advocacy to preserve and integrate traditional culture and its various creative expressions as a dynamic part of the national mainstream.
It will also be a venue for the IP’s to celebrate the richness of their unique culture that will allow a cultural exchange that will foster deeper cultural understanding on the role of IP/Cultural Communities in eco-tourism and cultural education.
“About 15 IP houses will be featured during the festival,” said a PTO staff, adding that construction for the vernacular architecture is now underway.
Other attractions of the festival also include a public forum, creativity workshop as well as techno-demo, and cultural presentations and festival showcase. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
