5 ex-mayors of Ivisan honored during town fiesta
IVISAN, Capiz – Five former mayors who served in this town were honored last Monday night at the town’s civic center here.
Mayor Felipe Yap said that the recognition went to Nelly Yap, his mother, who served for nine years; Noel Yap, his older brother, who also served for nine years; Lawyer Carmelo Andrada for 4 years, Necasio Pesueña, one month as officer-in-charge and Rene Villareal for 3 years.
Yap said that his administration also honored four persons who were responsible for the holding and preserving the endangered specie “pawikan” sea turtle which was supposed to be slaughtered by some unscrupulous fishermen.
They were: Federico Flores, Jr., Andro Flores, Nita Villgracia, and Ronnel Obera.
The said 51 inches long sea turtle, which has an estimated age of 30 years, is under the care of Sangguniang Bayan Member Dagoy Ugas’ fishpond for rehabilitation.
The sea turtle will be freed after the fiesta with the presence of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) provincial office and the media.
He added that Mr. Dedert Duarte, composer of the town’s hymn Arriba Hymn, was also honored.
The Ivisan fiesta in honor of the town patron is scheduled today.
