Europe’s giant BPO comes to Iloilo City
Touted as Europe’s biggest, Transcom, a leading global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider will soon open an 800-seat facility at the Amigo Plaza Mall in downtown Iloilo City, Mayor Jerry Treñas said.
Treñas disclosed the new BPO investment in city following his meeting with Transcom Philippines country manager Siva Subramaniam and Australia director for operations Chris Mason.
“They will start the initial recruitment of 1,060 by October. They might expand the hiring of 2,000 up to 3,000 employees. They will make the announcement soon. This is very good news because it means new employment opportunities for the Ilonggos,” Treñas stressed.
He noted that Transcom already sealed contract with Amigo Mall for the office space.
The mayor said that Transcom executives also discussed with officials of Panay Power Corp. (PPC) and Panay Electric Co. (Peco) regarding their power requirement – they would also be the last priority in cases of brownout.
In its website www.transcom.com, the company offers expertise in a wide range of industry sectors including telecommunications, financial, travel and leisure, utilities and retail/consumer goods.
Transcom said it has employed some 20,000 professionals serving over 120 major clients in more than 30 languages through its 75 sites in 29 countries worldwide, making it one of the largest in the industry.
Transcom earlier set up offices in Pasig City, Manila and Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
“The entry of BPOs here will mean additional investments and jobs. The city is ready for interested BPOs willing to invest here,” Treñas said.
During the Iloilo-Guimaras Investment Forum in Manila recently, Treñas highlighted the strong number and quality of talent pool produced regularly by major universities here.
“Some 18,000 graduates are English-proficient, highly-trainable and immersed in a Western-oriented culture, making it ideal for service-oriented businesses, business process outsourcing work, and jobs overseas,” he told investors.
Executives of prospective investors have been visiting the schools here to determine the availability of potential human resources and looking at the possible location in the city to host their office of operations.
As of date, the city is hosting nine BPOs including Teletech, ePLDT Ventus, Callbox Customer Contact Center, Global Mega Communications Inc., Techno Call Corp., Interactive Voice Call Center, Medlink Trans Services, Eversun Software Philippines Corp., and Savant Technologies employing a total of some 4,500 workers.
The City Government has also prepared all the necessary data needed for investment plans for interested BPOs to consider. (PIO)
