PESO – Roxas contends for national award
ROXAS CITY – The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) here is among the nominees for this year’s PESO national award for component cities category.
“We were informed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) of the nomination,” said PESO – Roxas City Manager Milagros I. Barquin, who is set to attend the PESO national congress in Pampanga next month.
The PESO awards will be in time for the forthcoming congress.
The local government unit – led Office has made notable accomplishments through job placement of hundreds of Capicenos in various local establishments as well as deployed a considerable number of overseas contract workers to Hong Kong and some Middle East countries since its establishment in February 2008.
PESO is in support to President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo’s job generation program that has facilitated sound employment to numbers of Filipinos and lifted them from the quagmire of poverty.
DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque said that the country’s quality of employment continues to improve highlighting the fact that wage and salary employment increased by 7.3 percent over last year based on the recent National Statistics Office labor force survey.
“The number of persons in full time employment also increased by 500,000, or 2.2%, while self-employed workers and unpaid family workers fell by 335,000 and 174,000, respectively,” Roque said.
The DOLE chief explained that the dip in the number of self-employed and unpaid workers means either of two things: the self-employed and unpaid family workers could have dropped out of the labor force or found full-time employment. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
