The SOS Children’s Village-Iloilo Fun Run
‘One Child, One Friend, One Movement’
For the first time, the SOS Children’s Village-Iloilo is initiating a fun run. Its main objective is to raise 2,000 friends who will support 3,320 children until the year 2016. The other aims are: to promote social awareness on child’s rights to have a caring family, to have higher proceeds from the donations, registrations and selling of souvenirs and foods that will go to the SOS-Iloilo children’s basic, educational and medical needs as well as promote a healthy lifestyle through running.
There will be 20 high school and colleges as well as professional and non-government organizations that have pledged to join.
“The 1st Fun Run activity of SOS Children’s Village Iloilo would be a vital event in projecting the strong support of Ilonggos for our children in One Child, One Friend, One Movement campaign. With the preset support of different Colleges, Universities, and other establishments in the province and city of Iloilo, I could feel at the beginning when SOS established six years ago how supportive the Ilonggos are for the cause of the children. At this point in time, together with my co-workers we would like to thank everyone who really contributed a lot to realize this event,” said Renie Masongsong, village director.
Presently, SOS-Iloilo cares for 131 children ages 3 to 20 years old. There are 12 family houses, with each house having eight to 10 children and a professional mother trained by the SOS Children’s Village National Training Consultant. They are single women dedicated to provide unconditional love and untiring care for the children they are serving. Also, it has 1,111 family members under its Family Strengthening Program-an extension program that assist the children of families with more than three children and economically hard up.
The fun run will take place on Sept. 27, 2009, Sunday, starting 6 AM and ending at 9 AM. The converging area or starting point is the Zarraga Town Plaza (the open field beside the Municipal Hall) and the finishing point is the SOS Children’s Village Ground. The registration fee is P50.
About SOS Children’s Village
SOS Children’s Villages is active in 132 countries and territories worldwide. The variety of this international work is brought together by the umbrella organization SOS-Kinderdorf International, which unites all of the autonomous national associations.
In all countries where SOS Children’s Villages operates, the aim is to form a national association which is its own legal entity, with its own statutes and Board of Directors. Common for all of them is membership of the international umbrella association, and the fact that their Board of Directors work on an honorary basis. Each member association has to comply with the international statutes and principles for education and child-care of SOS-Kinderdorf International, and for financial and administrative practices.
The national associations are registered and organised as a foundation, trust, association, non-profit company or society. As a full member of SOS-Kinderdorf International, they have the right to apply for funding through the umbrella association, and to request services from the General Secretariat.
Many national SOS Children’s Village associations present themselves in a variety of ways to interested Internet users. Visit national websites in the section “Where we help”. (Source: http://www.sos-childrensvillages.org)
