Bacolod City celebrates Boys & Girls Week
The boy and girl officials, who were elected and appointed in line with the Boys & Girls Week celebration, officially assumed their respective government positions yesterday.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia administered the oath of office to the boy and girl officials led by Girl Mayor Mika Tajima of Luisa Medel High School and Boy Vice Mayor John Edison Ubaldo in simple ceremonies held at the lobby of the New Government Center.
Leonardia stressed that it was a milestone in the 42-year history of the Boys and Girls Week as it was the first time that oathtaking ceremonies were held at the NGC.
He also lauded the boy and girl officials for being participative in the affairs of their schools and the city government and that he expressed hopes that they will serve as good examples to their fellow students.
The elected boy and girl councilors are: Christian Miran (Bata National High School), Stephen Epacta (Sum-ag National High School), Ben Joseph Harder (Negros Occidental National High School), Keans Quinnie Diamante (Bacolod City National High School), Ma. Karen Kathyrine Paratilla (Domingo Lacson National High School), Lucino Cordova III (Sum-ag National High School), Nova Marie Atienza (Brgy. Singcang Airport National High School), Jessa Chris Renolleno (Fr. Gratian Murray Integrated School), John Nelbert dela Cruz (Luis Hervias National High School), Jorge Coscolluela (University of St. La Salle), Serah Cunahap (Mansilingan Christian Academy), Carmela Ann Javelosa (Negros Mission Academy), Glenn Matthew Lizares (St. John’s Institute) and Cathrina Dumancas (University of St. La Salle).
The boy and girl week officials attended an orientation conducted by the Human Resource Department before they went to the offices of their respective counterparts.
Aside from the elected ones, there were also appointed boy and girl officials who will serve as heads of the different departments in the city government.
The Boys and Girls Week is an annual tradition spearheaded by the Rotary Club in recognition and anticipation of the youth’s contribution to nation building.
Also present during the oathtaking ceremonies were the officers and members of the Rotary Club of Bacolod headed by their president Fernando Feria, Jr.
