Marikudo IPs celebrate family day; receive assistance
About 100 Indigenous Peoples (IPs) families living in Sitio Mariduko, Brgy. Camang-camang, Municipality of Isabela received goods from the Provincial Government and some sponsors during the IP family day, last week, as part of the celebration of the Family Week, themed: “’Si Nanay Matatag sa Lahat ng Bagay!”
Spearheaded by the Provincial Family Council under the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the day’s activity started with a simple program for the IPs where goods were distributed, followed by a lecture on VAWC Law or the Violence Against Women and Children by SP04 Elsa Verrey of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk, and followed by a tree planting activity in the area.
The distributed goods were 100 boxes of powdered milk, five boxes of bottled water, 6 boxes of health tea drinks, and 5 boxes of powdered juice donated by Ginebra San Miguel; 4 boxes of noodles and a box of sardines from the provincial government, and used clothing from the Provincial Council for Women (PCW).
The Marikudo IP Community is led by its chieftain, Isidro Pauden, Sr. who is considered one of the oldest IPs in the place.
Martin Sangher, a member of the community said that he is thankful for the assistance extended to their community by the government and other sectors because it’s a big help to their families.
Present in the activity were Merle Garcia, Asst. PSWD Officer and staff, Wenonah Martyr of the PCW, Joy Pastoral and Cheryl Rose Oceja of the Provincial Planning and Development Office, NOPPO Staff led by SP04 Judy Flores, Isabela Police, Provincial Health Office staff, Milina Jeruta of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, DSWD-Isabela, staff from the Office of SP Mae Javellana, and Brgy.
