SBM dares beneficiaries: Explain share in Basoc funds
BACOLOD CITY — After the filing of plunder case by Philippine Sports Commission against Bacolod Lone District Congressman Monico Puentevella, the Save Bacolod Movement (SBM) is challenging all individuals and business entities that received money from the Bacolod Sea Games Organizing Committee (Basoc) in 2005 to explain their share on the controversial P50.5 million funds.
In a press conference the other day, SBM convenor Romy Niere said all persons involved in the disbursement or the use of the Basoc Funds must come out and clarify their respective transactions with the Basoc or Congressman Monico Puentevella.
“These individuals can confirm or deny the alleged amount of money they reportedly received from the Basoc per liquidation reports submitted by Puentevella,” the veteran broadcast journalist said.
Another convenor Toto Frias, also a banker, said that it is important for these individuals and entities to issue an official statement about their involvement in the Basoc project.
“Whether they like it or not, they are part of the audit because their names appeared in the highly questionable liquidation report,” Frias stressed.
Suzette Nebril, another convenor, expressed dismay over the malicious accusations hurled against SBM by the camp of Puentevella.
“I will not stop searching for the truth behind Basoc fund scandal despite the claims of Puentevella and his supporters that our group is politically motivated,” she added.
She was not also surprised by the smear campaign purportedly waged by the Puentevella camp as she pointed out that the plunder case filed by the PSC chaired by Harry Angping against the solon is enough proof that the millions of funds given to Basoc was not properly used.
“We will fight for the truth and justice and we will combat all black propaganda they will throw against us,” Nebril assured.
