CPU-KDC marks 1st anniversary
The CPU Knowledge for Development Center marked its first year of strategic and targeted information sharing, dialogues, and partnerships for development in Western Visayas last Sept. 24 and 25, 2009.
A parade around the campus kicked off the celebration. Special Education students, some faculty members of the College of Education, CPU Libraries personnel and KDC facilitators joined in the parade. The photo exhibit at the Henry Luce III gallery provided a picturesque review of CPU-KDC’s yearlong achievements.
The day’s event included the launching of the World Bank Photo Competition for the Filipino Youth with the theme “Making Growth Work for the Poor”. Through video conference, Moira Enerva, Public Information Associate and the Bank’s focal person for KDCs facilitated the activity.
In the afternoon, the College of Education Special Education majors sponsored a seminar on inclusive education. Dorothy S. Tarol, SPED-ISEC Guidance Counselor spoke on the topic “Linking Peers with Disability”.
Located at the ground floor of Henry Luce III Library, the CPU-KDC is a World Bank funded program that was established in September last year. Through the Knowledge Sharing Program, CPU-KDC established KDC nooks at NEDA VI and Pavia National High School. The KDC nooks are extension of the CPU-KDC where reading materials and KDC resource materials are placed to enhance knowledge sharing among beneficiaries.
In May 2009, CPU-KDC became a Center for Persons with Disabilities when computer facilities for the blind were setup through WB donation and a program partnership with the Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation Integration and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV) were forged.
On June 23, CPU-KDC hosted the “KAYA NATIN: Caravan on Good Governance” with Governors, Ed Panlilio of Pampanga and Grace Padaca of Isabela as the guest speakers.
Throughout the year, the video conference facility of the CPU-KDC hosted numerous interactive dialogues and conferences for students, organizations and institutions.
CPU-KDC is the 11th center that the World Bank launched last Sept. 28, 2008. True to what World Bank Country Director Bert Hofman stated during last year’s launching, the CPU-KDC has become a popular venue for discussing developmental issues, sharing best practices and expanding collaboration among various groups in the community, as well as sharing experience in global development–exchanging views and listening to the people outside Manila.
The CPU-KDC is one facility that helps CPU provide the community and Ilonggos with unparalleled access to knowledge for development resources. It is open at 8 AM to 12 PM, 2 PM to 6 PM, Mondayto Friday; Saturday on special arrangements only. For further information you may contact Ana Mae Cantel,
