Felicidad Sy Wellness Center of the Elderly
Several years ago, Hans Sy told us that his father dreamt of something bigger than SM Mall of Asia. Since then, I wondered what could be bigger than that mall where SM is concerned.
Then came the refurbishing and renovation of the Iloilo City Senior Citizens Center, now called the Felicidad Sy Wellness Center of the Elderly in Molo. The center was named after the wife of Henry Sy, the man behind SM. It’s considered as SM’s gift to the senior residents of Iloilo City and nearby communities through SM Foundation, Inc.’s efforts.
“This is a good place for our senior citizens to gather, relax, play, do their business, and more,” said Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog.
Mayor Jerry Trenas said that he’s quite impressed with what SM Foundation, Inc. did with the place. “I feel like I’m in a spa,” he said, adding that putting an air conditioning unit there would be a good idea.
SMFI had been helping the city with erecting additional classrooms or school buildings, health and medical services, mall-based programs and other community projects. I’d like to think that this is what Hans Sy said about “something bigger.” What could be bigger than empowering the Filipinos and the nation through community building?

Quote from Robert Fulghum: Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air–explode softly–and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth–boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn’t go cheap, either–not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination.
