De la Paz dares Gumban to match if not surpass his achievements
Outgoing Iloilo Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Ricardo de la Paz challenges Sr. Supt. Renato Gumban to equal if not to surpass his achievements while serving as the province’s top cop.
De la Paz will turn over the command to Gumban tomorrow morning (Tuesday) in a turn over rites at the Iloilo Police Provincial Police Office in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo. Officials from the Police Regional Office 6 will administer the changing of guards in the presence of provincial officials.
Gumban was the former chief of the 6th Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). It was during his time that he handled the case of the celebrated murders of Bobby Tan, his wife Cindy Zayco and a daughter. The suspects, Tan’s two sons in previous relation, eluded arrest despite the CIDG’s close watch.
Gumban will assume as IPPO director in OIC capacity pending the list to be provided by the Seniors Officers Placement and Promotion Board in Camp Crame for Governor Niel Tupas to choose. The OIC provincial director was included in the list of the three candidates for the position.
De la Paz said Gumban should match if not surpass his performance especially on the campaign against gun-for-hire groups and other forms of criminalities.
Last week, four members of the notorious Commando Group, a Manila-based crime group, died in a firefight in a police operation in the town of San Dionisio. Three of the suspects were identified by the police. Their deaths foiled the plan to stage robbery hold-up in one of the banks in Sara.
De la Paz boosted his achievements while serving as IPPO director. The crime incidence was greatly reduced while the Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) was increased. The neutralization of gun-for-hire group contributed much on the peace and order in the province.
It is also during De la Paz term where municipal police stations and provincial mobile groups were rated and Kalabasa award were given to police units with below-par performance.
In the 3rd quarter of this year, the Pavia municipal police station remained as the top performer on the police station category. For the past five months, Pavia municipal police station occupied the number one slot.
The San Dionisio municipal police station placed on the 43rd place from among the 43 town police station in the province.
On the provincial mobile groups, the 607th provincial mobile group ranked first while 606th provincial mobile group in Tigbauan ranked last in the recent evaluation.
