Lady Director aims for Green Workplaces in WV
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 is set to launch “Project Green Workplace Advocacy” aimed at promoting the transformation of workplaces into environmentally-friendly, resource efficient and socially responsible organizations to help address climate change and generate the so-called “Green Jobs.”
DOLE 6 Director Aida M. Estabillo said this project aims to make workplaces clean and green and responsive against climate change.
The lady director said the country is already feeling the impact of climate change and it is picking up speed unless the public rally together and make a concerted effort to reduce its effects.
The Project Green Workplace Advocacy is the DOLE’s response on the need to address climate change through the mobilization of its social partners – management, workers and other stakeholders in advocating for green workplaces to enhance productivity and promote the use of green technology to lessen the impact of climate change while, at the same, create new job opportunities.
“This initiative is not yet too late to reduce environmental impacts; we must do our share and make a difference,” she said. “Businesses greening their workplaces will reap the rewards in terms of environmental, economic and health and safety of workers,” she added.
Greening workplaces would mean additional costs to the companies as they would install high efficiency equipment or new technologies that could help reduce costs but its long term benefits are just too great to be ignored.
Project Green Workplace Advocacy is among the priority projects of the DOLE in support of its program in promoting, facilitating, enhancing and preserving the employment of Filipino workers.
Under the Project, the DOLE 6 will conduct an orientation cum workshop in time with the launching of the project to raise the level of awareness of employers, workers and other stakeholders on the impact of climate change to the environment, the economies and people’s lives as well, and get their commitments relative to the implementation of the project in their respective establishments.
