Bago City First Water Sport Competition
Bago City held its first water sport competition in accordance to the part two celebration of the Feast of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of the city recently. The celebration is a form of thanksgiving and aim to stress the unique beauty of Bago city.
The event started at 8:30 AM with the arrival and registration of participants coming from the provinces of Iloilo and Negros. There was a thrilling competition of Jet Ski ride with the Ilo-Ilo Water Craft Association. Meanwhile, Negros water sport group also presents talents of Negrense in water sports in giving extreme exhibitions. The water event aims to showcase the beauty of the Bago River which was formerly known as a quarrying spot and ‘talaban’ area of the local residents. Bago City focuses upon the preservation and to uplift the natural beauty of the river by clearing the area and keeping its natural form. In line with this, the local government of Bago city, retrieved the fallen bridge of time and cleared the area from bamboo poles used as ‘talabahan’.
The event held a free Jet Ski fun ride to all interested guests to feel and experience water fun in swim attire. There is party at the park, fireworks and fire dance exhibition right after the awarding of the competition.
Mayor Ramon Torres, Bago city Major, plans to include more water-based events to highlight the celebration for the next more years as to the conservation and preservation of the Bago River.
