Ocampo to launch Makabayan Party in Iloilo
No less than House Deputy Minority Floor Leader Cong. Satur Ocampo of Bayan Muna partylist will lead the launching of Makabayang Koalisyon ng Mamamayan (Makabayan) political party here in Iloilo City this coming October 16, 2009 at the La Paz Plaza Covered Court.
During the launching which will start at 1 p.m., Ocampo will also present to the public the initial local candidates of the Makabayan party.
Part of Makabayan’s campaign to organize provincial chapters nationwide and promoting public awareness of the coalition’s plan to participate in the senatorial, partylist, and local elections; the launching is the highlight of the series of activities starting with Ocampo’s visit in Kalibo, Aklan and Roxas City on October 15, 2009.
Organized last April 16-17, 2009 in Quezon City, Makabayan is a coalition of political parties and personalities with definite view on the need for change and promotes patriotism, democracy, justice and people’s welfare.
At present Makabayan is composed of Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela Women’s Party, Kabataan partylist, ACT partylist, Courage partylist and the Migrante sectoral party and several patriotic and democratic personalities.
Among some prominent personalities who are members of Makabayan are Maita Gomez (Chairperson), UP Prof. Bien Lumbera, and Director Joel Lamangan.
Makabayan will field Cong. Satur Ocampo, Cong. Liza Masa, and Cong. Teddy Casiño as senatorial candidates in the coming elections. The Coalition is open in the possibility of endorsing a genuine opposition presidential candidate as its standard bearer in the national elections.
Makabayan will also field local candidates in Panay and may have standard bearers in the provincial, city and municipal elections.
