COPRE ’09 to focus on Climate Change
The College Press Conference (COPRE) and Awards ’09, spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 6 will focus on Climate Change mitigation and adaptation themes for its various events.
PIA 6 Dir. Atty. Janet Mesa said a special award for publication contests will be on Feature and Editorial Articles on Climate Change, to be given by the Canadian Urban Institute-Philippines.
Among the highlights of the event which is the Search for Ms. And Mr. COPRE ’09 will also have for its theme Climate Change Mitigation, with the participants’ talents and costumes zeroing in on environmental protection measures.
Mesa said such focus is intended to deepen the consciousness of campus journalists that they are frontline actors in helping their student populace to become active participants in combating adverse impacts of climate change.
The one-day event, which will be on November 26, at the Iloilo Grand Hotel will feature journalistic writing contests among student writers in the region, a press conference on government programs, and the publications contests on various categories.
The COPRE’s events will be capped by the Awarding Ceremonies, which will include the recognition of 10 Best Performing Advisers for 2009, the Outstanding Writers and Publications and the Gawad Graciano Lopez-Jaena Awardee/s.
The COPRE is a special project of PIA6 that serves as an incentive /scheme for evaluating performance of campus paper writers and publications who have been participating in its series of Basic Journalism Seminars conducted yearly to train student writers. (PIA6/ESS)
