Ipanema drum dance
BACOLOD CITY — An exciting drum dance entitled “Ipanema Drum Dance” similar to the conga line being celebrated in Brazil during merry-makings will be held for the first time in Bacolod City as another highlight during the Electric MassKara on October 17, 2009, Saturday, starting at 9:30 p.m. at Lacson street.
Ipanema Drum Dance is a long line of people dancing wherein the first person in front of the line leads the dance, much like a conga line, only the music is not limited to congas, said Mariel Genito of the Islandscape Distributors, the provincial distributor of Ipanema for Western Visayas.
This will be the first ever in Bacolod and in the history of MassKara Festival, Genito said, adding that they plan to do it every year as part of the MassKara highlight festivities along Lacson Street. The whole street will be a lot merrier as the famed Patiqueros and DJ Leandro Zayco together with some street dancers will lead the line with their infectious island music of congas, bongo’s and cowbells.
Starting point of the Drum Dance is the intersection of Ramos and Lacson streets. The line can go farthest up to 7th- Lacson streets and then back to starting point where people can continue enjoying sprightly music. Surprises await participants upon reaching the end of the Drum Dance.
The Drum Dance is part of Ipanema’s “Live the Fantasy” nationwide marketing campaign which emphasizes on Brazil-inspired lifestyle – street-dancing, colorful costumes, beautiful people, and lavish parties, Genito said.
This is the first and only interactive drum dance in the streets of Lacson wherein anyone from tourists, locals, guests, celebrities, to politicians and everyone from all ages can join the line for partying and merry making. This is definitely one event that brings out the joy and spontaneity in everyone from the city of sweet smiles, she said.
