Bacolod receives CROWN award
BACOLOD CITY — Mayor Evelio Leonardia received in behalf of Bacolod City the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in ceremonies held yesterday at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Bacolod is one of the four cities nationwide who received the citation for being a constant winner for its outstanding nutrition programs. The other cities were Santiago (Isabela), Lapu-lapu (Cebu), and Pagadian (Zamboanga del Sur). Several provinces also received the same recognition.
Leonardia said that the CROWN award is a clear manifestation of the city government’s strong commitment to provide adequate nutrition programs for the underprivileged sector of the community. He expressed gratitude to the city government employees and members of the private sector who work actively for these programs.
The mayor was accompanied by City Nutrition Action Officer Femmy Rivera at the awarding ceremonies.
The recognition is given annually by the National Nutrition Council to cities and provinces who consistently promote excellent nutrition programs aimed at alleviating malnutrition and promote healthy lifestyle.
Bacolod City has been a recipient of numerous awards since 2004. These awards include the Most Business Friendly City, Most Child Friendly City, Most Disabled Friendly City, Top 3 Best Peace and Order Council, Top 3 Best City Disaster Coordinating Council, Clean and Green Award, and Sandugo Award among others.
