Integrated Art Workshop culminating activity held
BACOLOD CITY — The Bacolod City Government under Mayor Evelio Leonardia through Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) and the National Anti-Poverty Commission of Person with Disability Sector (NAPC-PWD) conducted a culmination activity on a three-day “Integrated Art Workshop” for youth with disability at the lobby of the New Government Center recently.
Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said that this is a chance for the disabled to enhance their capabilities and show to others the talents they have.
Committee on Social Services, chair Homer Q. Bais said that this is the output of what they had learned during the three days of workshops and this presentation showcased their unique abilities as individuals.
Committee on Child and Family, chair Celia Matea R. Flor on the other hand said that this is also a way to know the talents and creativity despite of disability. “This will help them grow into better persons and to be productive members of the community,” she added.
Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities Vice President, Felicite Jean Gonzales said that this is also one way of fighting discrimination and poverty by helping our disabled to stand up while DSSD Head Sally Abelarde said that this three-day workshop aimed to involve the youth with disabilities in the expressions through arts, their right to education, inclusion and participation; and to teach the volunteers, interpreters and teachers the process of the integrated arts workshop.
The culminating activity was a cultural and creative final presentation of the 35 youth, who were mentally challenged and children with autism from Special Education and Bacolod City National High School.
