SanAg Exhibit: Taking the first step
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, for me it also goes with Art. Recently, the Fine Arts students of the University of San Agustin held their first exhibit outside the school which was held in Red Steakhouse and Gallery, Smallville.
Most of their works have a touch of their life in the real world; depicted emotions that they have towards the society and their outlook in life that they want other people to see. Like in the work of Marrz Halley Capanang which was presented in three parts entitled “The I – tornado, Gradation, and The Gloom”. He said that his work is all about grief, suffering, and regrets. Another with Norce Salazar in his painting entitled “A Tribute to the Man with Glasses”, his work was a bit familiar to me because of the writings on his painting that says “We are on Strike”. It is also the same words that I used to see in a banner that is hanged outside their school gates and he said that it is where he has taken the concept of making such painting.
The painting that really caught my attention was the work of Noel Epalan Jr which was also in three parts. I think its because of the color that he used. It was just a simple red, yellow and orange painting but it was the most captivating one for me. Especially the one at the middle which entitled “Last-Lust“, it has a dramatic torn part at the center that makes the painting more striking. So, I asked him about it and he said that he needed to cut that part because he has mistakenly put something in there that cannot be erased.
Art is viewed in different ways and for me the paintings of the University of San Agustin Fine Arts students was indeed the first step in there future careers.
