Comelec urges voters to beat deadline for registration
With only more than a week left before the deadline of the registration, the City Comelec asked the voters to make use the extended registration hours implemented nationwide to accommodate late registrants.
Jonathan Sayno of the City Comelec said they will still accept the application of voters’ registration in their satellite office at the Robinsons Place until October 24. The following day, the registration would be in their office at Iloilo Terminal Market.
He said they have to observe the mall hours, thus they could not extend the registration until 9 p.m. as called for by the Comelec en banc which extended the registration hours until 9 p.m starting October 22. He, however, said they are open on Saturdays and even on Sundays.
The Comelec recently issued an order extending the registration hours to accommodate late registrants nationwide. Comelec offices are open until midnight during the last day of the registration which is October 31.
Sayno said they are ready to accommodate the late registrants in their office at the Iloilo Terminal Market on October 31. He said there are still number of late registrants’ in spite of their effort in conducting registrations in the six districts in the city and various universities to help the voters especially the new voters.
He expects that there would be many complaints on the last day of the registration. There are people who like to register on the last day when the office is crowded.
