Bolante, allies to go for Erap-Binay tandem?
ROXAS CITY – Former Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante and his allies may support the tandem of former Pres. Joseph Estrada and Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay in next year’s presidential election.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Bolante may throw his support to the Erap-Binay tandem following the declaration of Sen. Mar Roxas that their group will not in any way become associated with the controversial former DA Usec who is gunning for governorship of Capiz.
The source said Estrada, who won as president in 1998, has many projects in Roxas City particularly the P120 million Culasi Port Expansion.
Mrs. Erma Gaboa, of Jeep ni Erap, confirmed that many of Capizeños are still loyal to Erap.
The source stressed that many Capiceños had benefited during the stint of Erap, one of them is former Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Leny Albar, father of City Councilor Monchit Albar, who was appointed to the position by the former president.
It was learned that Binay has some links to several mayors of Capiz that have forged sisterhood with Makati City such as the towns of Dao, Sigma, Mambusao, Ivisan, Sapian and Roxas City which, the source said, would support his vice presidential bid.
Former Governor Jose “Ting”Borda, Bolante’s political ally, never confirmed the analysis posed by the source but he said it is one of the possible scenarios being considered by the Ugyon Kita Capiz Party.
Ugyon Kita Capiz Party is chaired by 2nd District Congressman Fredenil Castro and Bolante is the vice chairman.
