St. Luke’s docs hold free surgical mission in Mambusao
MAMBUSAO, Capiz – Doctors and nurses from St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) held a free minor and major surgical operations last Saturday and Sunday at Mambusao District Hospital which benefited poor patients in the 1st and 2nd districts of Capiz.
Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief retired General Roberto “Bobby” Lastimoso, who is president of Circulo Mambuseño in Manila, said that some 20 surgical doctors and 10 nurses from SLMC conducted major surgical operations for hernia, thyroid or goiter, hemmorhoid, gallstones removal and warts. There was also minor surgical operation for cysts, sebaceous and breast mass.
Lastimoso said that the 2-day activity is sponsored by Circulo Mambuseño in Manila, Sagip Bayan Foundation, Capiz provincial government, Sen. Mar Roxas and Board Member Nenita Martilino.
He added that patients not treated during the two-day mission but already registered in the list, will have an opportunity to be treated in Manila adding that there were 32 patients for major and 40 for minor operations. He said that patients who undergone operation could also avail of medical treatment for free.
“There is no politics here as many people give political color in conducting a surgical mission,” Lastimoso said adding that politics is not bad if it is good for the people.
“The bad politics is that when there are people who prevented the medical mission,” Lastimoso referring his bad experience in the previous medical mission.
He said that his group had already conducted nine medical missions for the poor who cannot afford to go to the hospital as major surgical operations normally cost P50,000.00.
Lastimoso, a native of Mambusao, earlier declared to run as congressman in the 2nd district facing Mrs. Baby Castro, wife of Cong. Fredenil Castro.
The medical team is led by Dr. William Onglingswan, who specializes in internal medicine. Other surgeons are: Dr. Jose Ma.
